Aleksander Kwaśniewski

President of the Republic of Poland (1995-2005)

Participant of the famous Polish Round Table Talks, which in consequence led to a peaceful transformation from communism to democracy in Poland.
Co-founder and first Chairman of the political party Social Democracy of the Republic of Poland. Co-author of the new, democratic, polish constitution signed in 1997. During his tenure as president, Poland became a member of NATO in 1999.
Active supporter of the further enhancement of the NATO organization within the scope of the ‘open door policy’ as well as European integration. Thanks to his campaign for confirmation of the Treaty of Accession in 2003, Poland became a member of the European Union.
