Andrzej Towpik

Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations (2004-2010)

Began career as a research fellow at the Polish Institute of International Affairs and in Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1977 to 1981, appointed First Secretary of the Polish Embassy in Madrid.  For the next five years served as a Deputy Director of the Planning Department at the Ministry, followed by a post as Minister-Counsellor at the Polish Permanent Representation to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). From 1994 to 1997 Under-Secretary of State in charge of Polish security policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2003 to 2004 the Under-Secretary of State for Defence Policy at the Ministry of National Defence of Poland.  From 2004 to 2010 an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary (the Permanent Representative Poland to United Nations).

Engaged in implementing Poland’s integration and accession policies towards NATO and the European Union.
