Pierre Buhler

Ambassador of the Republic of France to the Republic of Poland

Pierre Buhler started his diplomatic career in 1983 in the French Embassy in Warsaw. After serving in Moscow (1985-1988) he joined the Directorate for Strategic Affairs (1988-1990) in the MFA, where he then became Deputy Head of the Policy Planning Staff (1990-1993). He served in the French Embassy in the US, first in Washington (1993-1996) then in New York (1996-2001). From 2001 to 2002 he was the diplomatic adviser to the Minister of Defense. He became a professor of international relations at Sciences Po Paris (2002-2006) and then ambassador of France to Singapore (2006-2009). He was appointed Ambassador to Poland in 2012. Ambassador Buhler is a Knight of both the Order of Merit and the Legion of Honor. In 2012 he was awarded Commander of the Order Polonia Restituta. He is the author of a History of Poland under communism and of Power in the XXIth century.
