Irene Fellin is the co-founder and Executive President of the Italian antenna of WIIS – Women in International Security. She works as a Senior Fellow at the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) where she acts as Principal Advisor for all gender related issues. She leads IAI's work on research projects dealing with the implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000)+ on “Women, Peace and Security” within the framework of the UN, NATO, the OSCE and the EU and on strengthening women's inclusion in politics, diplomacy, and peace mediation efforts. She is the coordinator of the Mediterranean Women Mediators Network (MWMN), and she works on education and training programs about the “Women, Peace and Security” agenda and about “Gendered inclusive mediation and peace processes”. Furthermore, since 2019 she is visiting Lecturer on “Gender, Security, and Post-Conflict Reconstruction” at Durham University (UK) and she is a Senior Fellow at WIIS Global. She holds a Master in “Women’s Rights and Gender Issues” from the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara. Over the past 15 years, she has worked as international consultant for UN Women HQ, UNICEF in Ankara, the Folke Bernadotte Academy, the OSCE, CoESPU – Center of Excellence for Police Stability, La Sapienza University, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International cooperation of Italy, and as Gender Advisor to the Special Representative of NATO’s Secretary General on “Women, Peace and Security”.
