Dr. Benjamin Tallis established the Democratic Strategy Initiative to address Germany's strategic deficit, develop the Grand Strategy that liberal democracies need to prevail in the systemic competition against authoritarians states and help free societies work better together to ensure our security, prosperity and freedom. He has extensive experience in analysing, researching and advising, as well as working as a practitioner in international politics and security. Most recently he led DGAP's Action Group Zeitenwende, exploring Germany's strategic choices and presenting options to manage its geopolitical and geoeconomic transformation. Benjamin has published widely and is the author of the books 'To Ukraine With Love: Essays on Russia's War and Europe's Future' and 'Identities, Borderscapes, Orders'. He created the concept of Neo-Idealism in International Relations and, in 2024, was awarded the Lithuanian MFA's Medal of Honour, the Star of Diplomacy.
