David Zalkaliani
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georgia
Mr. David Zalkaliani has served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia since June 2018 and as the Vice Prime Minister of Georgia since 2021.
A graduate of Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, with a specialty in International Law.
Mr. Zalkaliani has held a number of positions at Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Between 1992 and 1995, he entered the Department of International Organizations, Division of European Community, where he eventually became the Deputy Head of the Division.
Furthermore, he served in various capacities at Georgian diplomatic missions abroad. He held the position of, inter alia: the First Secretary and Counsellor to the International Organisations in Vienna (1996 - 2000, 2001 - 2002), Senior Counsellor to United States, Mexico, and Canada (2002 - 2004), the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republics of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan (2004 - 2007).
In between his service abroad he served as the Counsellor to First European Department and the Director to the Department of Global Relations at Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Between October 2012 and November 2014 Mr. Zalkaliani served as the First Deputy to the Minister. In 2016 he was became First Deputy Foreign Minister. Mr. David Zalkaliani has held the diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary since 2007. Speaks English, German and Russian.
