Kari M. Osland is Director at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI).
In her research, Osland focuses on conflict dynamics, international crisis management, insurgencies, violent extremism, resilience, and peacebuilding, particularly police reform. Recent and ongoing projects are two EU-funded initiatives: Preventing Violent Extremism in the Balkans and the broader MENA region (PREVEX), and Re-engaging with neighbours in a state of war and geopolitical tensions (Re-Engage), focusing on Bosnia, Serbia, Albania, Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova.
She leads the Norwegian Research Council project Jihadist Governance in the Sahel. She has fieldwork experience from the Balkans, Afghanistan, Iraq and several African countries.
