Liviu-Ionuț Moșteanu took office as Romania’s Minister of National Defence on 24 June 2025. A Member of the Romanian Parliament, Mr Moșteanu has a diverse record of achievements in public administration, strategic communications, infrastructure, and defence policy. He is a firm advocate of democratic values, international cooperation, and transatlantic security.
Mr Moșteanu assumed office following a long-standing career in both the public and private sectors. He has served as a Member of the Romanian Parliament since December 2016, representing Argeș County. In this capacity, he has held the position of Leader of the USR Parliamentary Group, has been an active member of the Romanian Parliamentary Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, and has contributed to the work of several parliamentary committees, including the Committee on Defence, Public Order and National Security, the Committee on Public Administration, the Committee on Transport, and the Committee on Sport.
Prior to his parliamentary career, Mr Moșteanu was Secretary of State at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure in 2016, where he coordinated the naval and aviation sectors and represented Romania in external relations.
Mr Moșteanu began his professional career in the private sector, holding senior management positions in leading national and international companies in marketing, communications, and corporate strategy.
He studied Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at the University of Bucharest (2018–2020), Management at Bioterra University (1996–1999), and Automation at the University Politehnica of Bucharest (1992–1995), but at the latter he did not obtain a bachelor’s degree.
Mr Moșteanu was born on 23 December 1973, is married, and has two children.
