Lt Gen Hervé de Courrèges

Director, Institute of Advanced Studies in National Defence (IHEDN), France

By presidential decree of June 19, 2024, Army Corps General Hervé de Courrèges has been appointed Director of the Institute for Higher National Defense Studies (IHEDN), of Advanced Military Education, and of the Military School’s Defense Academy, effective August 1.

A graduate of Saint-Cyr (class of Général Delestraint, 1988-1991), he began his career in the armored cavalry and held command and operational posts in Lebanon, Chad, Afghanistan, and Côte d’Ivoire. He later served in senior staff and advisory roles, including at the Ministry of Defense and the General Secretariat for Defense and National Security (SGDSN). Promoted to general in 2018, he has since commanded the 27th Mountain Infantry Brigade and the Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan Military Academy.

General Hervé de Courrèges is an Officer of the Legion of Honor, Commander of the National Order of Merit, and holder of the Cross for Military Valor. He is married and father of five children.
