Sebastian-Ioan Burduja, PhD, served as Minister of Energy in the Romanian Government until recently, having been appointed in June 2023.
He previously served as Minister of Research, Innovation, and Digitalization between May 2022 and June 2023. In December 2020, he was elected to the Romanian Parliament and is also the President of the National Liberal Party (PNL) - Bucharest.
Previously, he served as Regional Development Specialist for the World Bank in Washington, D.C., focusing on Europe and Central Asia. Sebastian-Ioan Burduja also worked for Dalberg Global Development Advisors, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, McKinsey & Co., and the National Endowment for Democracy. B
efore starting his political career, he was the Founding President of the League of Romanian Students Abroad (LSRS), now the largest Romanian non-profit network in the world, and the co-founder of the CAESAR Foundation, a think tank connecting 500+ top Romanian and international policy experts.
He graduated in 2008 from Stanford University, with honors and distinction. From 2008 to 2011, he continued his studies at Harvard University, as a David Rubenstein fellow, graduating with an MBA from Harvard Business School and an MPP from Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Sebastian-Ioan Burduja holds a PhD in Economics and International Affairs from the Romanian Academy of Economic Studies (Summa Cum Laude). He is the author of several books, including the bestseller “The Plan for Romania” (2020).
