Dr. Szu-chien Hsu has assumed the position of the Senior Advisor of the National Security Council of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in September 2025.
After he acquired his Ph. D in political science from Columbia University in 1997, Dr. Hsu has been an academic researcher and professor studying and teaching Chinese politics and international relations in Taiwan.
Dr. Hsu served as the Director of the Center of Contemporary China at the National Tsinghua University (2012-2017) and associate research fellow at the Institute of Political Science at Academia Sinica (2012-2024), President of Taiwan Foundation for Democracy (2016-2018), Deputy Foreign Minister (2018-2020) and Deputy Secretary-General of the National Security Council (2020-2025).
