Tore Onshuus Sandvik (1969) is a Norwegian Labour Party politician from Trondheim.
He studied at NTNU after attending Heimdal Upper Secondary School and became politically active early, leading the Labour youth wing (AUF) in Sør-Trøndelag from 1990. His career also included roles as youth secretary in the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions and vice president of ETUC Youth, giving him both national and European experience.
Sandvik first entered government as a State Secretary in the Ministry of Trade and Industry in 2001. From 2003 to 2017, he served as County Mayor of Sør-Trøndelag, and from 2018 to 2023, he was the first County Mayor of the newly merged Trøndelag. Known for long-standing leadership in local government, he played a key role in developing regional cooperation and policy.
He returned to national politics in 2023 as State Secretary in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, later serving briefly as Acting Minister of Climate and Environment in 2024. On 4 February 2025, he was appointed Minister of Defence in Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre’s government. Sandvik is married to Trine Brænden and has four children.
