Vjosa Osmani

President of the Republic of Kosovo

Dr. Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu is the sixth President of the Republic of Kosovo, elected on April 4, 2021, after previously serving as Speaker of Parliament and Acting President. She has been elected to the Assembly in five consecutive mandates and was the first woman to serve as Speaker.

Born in Mitrovica in 1982, President Osmani studied law at the University of Prishtina and earned her Master’s and Doctorate in international law from the University of Pittsburgh. She has also taught at the University of Prishtina, the American University in Kosovo, and as a visiting professor at the University of Pittsburgh.

As Commander-in-Chief of the Kosovo Security Force and the country’s chief representative in foreign policy, she is a strong advocate for democracy, rule of law, women’s rights, youth empowerment, and the inclusion of marginalized groups. She has also represented Kosovo before the International Court of Justice in the independence case and contributed to drafting Kosovo’s Constitution.

In recognition of her leadership and commitment to Euro-Atlantic values, she received the European Prize from the Coudenhove-Kalergi Foundation and the M100 Media Award in 2024.
