An American naval officer, public administrator, and legislator who represents Texas’s Second Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives.
His congressional work spans key committee assignments, including service on the House Energy and Commerce Committee — where he serves on the Subcommittees on Health, Oversight and Investigations, and as Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee on Environment — and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Within the Intelligence Committee, he serves as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Defense Intelligence and Overhead Architecture, sits on the Subcommittee on the Central Intelligence Agency, and leads the Cartel Task Force as its Chairman.
Prior to entering public office, he served for ten years in the U.S. Navy SEAL Teams, completing five overseas deployments across Iraq, Afghanistan, the Middle East, and South Korea, and retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. During a combat operation in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, he sustained severe injuries from an explosive blast, eventually regaining sight in one eye following extensive medical procedures before continuing his active military service. His military decorations include two Bronze Stars (one with Valor), the Purple Heart, and the Navy Commendation Medal with Valor.
Following his military retirement, he earned a Master’s in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and engaged in local community recovery and volunteer efforts in Texas before seeking elected office.
