Denys Shmyhal

Minister of Defense, Ukraine

Denys Shmyhal, born in 1975 in Lviv, is a Ukrainian politician and economist. He graduated from Lviv Polytechnic National University in 1997 as an engineer-economist and earned a Ph.D. in Economics in 2003. Shmyhal held leadership roles in business and government, including in the Lviv Regional State Administration (2009–2013), the Ministry of Revenue and Duties (2014), and senior positions at Lvivholod Ltd. and DTEK Zakhidenergo (2015–2019).

In 2019, he became head of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration, later serving as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Communities and Territories Development. On March 4, 2020, he was appointed Prime Minister of Ukraine, and on July 17, 2025, he became Minister of Defence of Ukraine.
