Her public service career includes parliamentary service as a member of the House of Representatives for the VVD, where she served as parliamentary party leader and spokesperson on media, foreign trade, climate and energy, and security affairs. In executive government, she served as State Secretary for Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (2021–2022) and as Minister of Justice and Security in the fourth Rutte government (2022–2024).
Earlier in her career, she held local government roles in Amsterdam, serving as a member of the municipal council and as an advisor to the municipal executive on public safety, integrated crime reduction programs, addiction treatment, and municipal welfare initiatives.
