Pro-democracy leader, human rights advocate, and author who founded the Free Russia Forum in 2016 and the Renew Democracy Initiative in 2017.
He retired from professional chess in 2005—having become the youngest world chess champion in history in 1985—to lead political opposition movements focused on democratic reform and anti-authoritarianism. Forced into exile in 2013, he continues to direct international initiatives aimed at defending open societies and supporting democratic resistance.
He is the author of several books on politics, strategic thinking, and technology, including Winter Is Coming: Why Vladimir Putin and the Enemies of the Free World Must Be Stopped, Deep Thinking, and The World of Fake Values.
