Politician and university professor. Senator representing the French abroad since 2011 (re-elected in 2017 and 2023). Vice-Chairwoman of the Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces Committee. Rapporteur for the Armed Forces equipment budget (since 2017) and the Official Development Assistance budget (2014-2017). Vice-President of the French Senate (2018-2020). Minister Delegate for Foreign Affairs, in charge of French abroad (2012-2014).

President of the France-Caribbean friendship group; vice-president of the France-West Africa, France-Central Africa, France-Ireland, France-Lebanon, France-Morocco, France-Monaco, France-Gulf countries and France-Vanuatu and Pacific Islands groups; secretary of the France-Taiwan group. Former director of the International sector of the Fondation Jean Jaurès; now advisor to President Jean-Marc Ayrault.

Member of the Socialist Party (since 1997) and PS’s National Secretary for National Defense. Member of the Board of Directors of the Agence pour l’enseignement français à l’étranger (AEFE) and the Institut français; member of the Fondation Jean-Monnet pour l’Europe, the Maison de l’Europe and the Assemblée des femmes; member of the associations "Les chemins de la russet" and "Excision parlons-en". Auditor for the 62nd session of the Institut des Hautes Etudes de Défense Nationale (IHEDN), reserve colonel in the French Air Force and member of the ADER network (since 2011).
