Defense analyst and military historian specializing in military innovation, Japanese defense strategy, and the Japan–U.S. security alliance.
His policy and research career at the National Institute for Defense Studies—the primary policy research arm of the Japan Ministry of Defense—includes a secondment to the Ministry's Defense Policy Division (2022–2023), where he contributed to drafting Japan's 2022 National Defense Strategy. His current research includes a comparative study of Japanese, U.S., and British aircraft carrier development during the interwar period analyzed through the lens of military innovation.
He was a U.S. Foreign Policy and International Security Fellow at Dartmouth College (2018–2019). He holds a B.A. in International Relations from the University of Tsukuba, an M.A. in Political Science from Aoyama Gakuin University, and both a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy and a Ph.D. in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.
