An American politician and defense administrator who serves as a United States Senator from North Dakota, following three terms as the state’s At-Large Member of the United States House of Representatives. In the Senate, his legislative work encompasses appointments to the Armed Services, Environment and Public Works, Veterans' Affairs, and Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committees.
Before his election to Congress, his public career in state governance included an appointment and subsequent election as a North Dakota Public Service Commissioner, where he oversaw state utility regulation and economic policy with a focus on energy security and utility rate management. During his tenure in the House of Representatives, he was recognized for extensive constituent engagement and hosting numerous public town hall meetings.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Concordia College, a Master’s degree in Management from the University of Mary, and an honorary doctorate of leadership.
