Strategic communications executive, international affairs analyst, and former journalist specializing in alliance defense strategy, geopolitical messaging, public diplomacy, and crisis management.
Her career includes serving as the longest-tenured NATO Spokesperson (2010–2023), where she directed strategic messaging, managed alliance communications under two Secretaries General, and served as chief speechwriter. In this capacity, she led public positioning on strategic approaches to Russia and China, the accession of Finland and Sweden, and NATO operations across the Western Balkans and Afghanistan. Prior to her defense career, she spent 25 years as a senior correspondent and editor for the BBC World Service covering European Union and international affairs. She holds senior fellowship and advisory roles at prominent European defense think tanks, including the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) and the European Policy Centre.
She is a recipient of the NATO Meritorious Service Medal.
