A political scientist, administrator, and European Union official who serves as Head of the Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI) at the European Commission.
His executive management experience within the European Commission includes serving in the Secretariat-General as coordinator for COVID-19 response operations and Head of the Clearing House for Medical Equipment during the pandemic. From 2015 to 2020, he led the Support Group for Ukraine within the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR). His earlier service in the Commission encompasses contributions to the Task Force for Greece (TFGR) and heading the unit responsible for defense, aeronautic, and maritime industries in DG Enterprise and Industry (now DG GROW).
Prior to joining the European Commission in 1999, he worked as a researcher at the Center for Applied Policy Research (CAP) in Munich, following several years as a journalist and newspaper editor. He holds a Ph.D. in political science, history, and psychology from Freiburg University.
