Member of the German Bundestag who served as Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and Vice-Chancellor from 2021 to 2025.
He served as Federal Co-Chairman of Alliance 90/The Greens from 2018 to 2022. His earlier public service includes six years as Deputy Minister-President of Schleswig-Holstein, where he led the Ministry for Energy Transition, Agriculture, Environment, Nature and Digitalization.
Prior to entering full-time politics, he worked as a freelance writer. He studied German Studies, Philosophy, and Philology at the University of Freiburg and Roskilde University, earning his Ph.D. in Literary Studies and Philosophy from the University of Hamburg in 2000.
