A Polish publisher, media executive, and politician who serves as Marshal of the Sejm, having previously served as Deputy Marshal in both the 9th and 10th terms. He was elected as a Member of the Sejm representing the constituency comprising Sosnowiec, Dąbrowa Górnicza, Jaworzno, and the Będzin and Zawiercie Poviats as part of the left-wing parliamentary coalition.
A graduate of the Faculty of Journalism and Political Sciences at the University of Warsaw, his early career was rooted in the student movement, serving as President of the Polish Students’ Association at the University of Warsaw, holding senior leadership roles in the Association’s District and Supreme Councils, directing the Academic Office of Culture and Science ALMA-ART, and later co-founding and presiding over the "Ordynacka" Association. In 1990, he transitioned into the publishing sector as co-owner and Chairman of the Management Board of the MUZA publishing house—introducing prominent modern authors and Ibero-American literature to Polish readers—and later served on the Management Board of the Wilga publishing house.
His public service in media governance and policy includes appointments as Advisor to the Prime Minister on culture and media, Chair of the Supervisory Board of Polish Radio, and Member and Secretary of the National Broadcasting Council. Over his political career, his party affiliations evolved from early membership in the Polish United Workers’ Party and the Citizens’ Movement for Democratic Action to leadership within the Democratic Left Alliance, where he served as Head of its Mazowsze Voivodeship Council and as President of the party.
