Major General Mihail Iancu, born on 29 July 1971 in Breaza, Prahova, is a Romanian Army officer. He has held several key positions, including Deputy Head of the Department for Defense Policy, Planning, and International Relations since September 2021, and Head of the Directorate for International Defense Cooperation from July 2020 to November 2021. His career also includes roles as a counselor at the Permanent Representation of Romania to the European Union and as an expert and command officer within the Department for Defense Policy, Planning, and International Relations. Iancu was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in November 2021 and to Major General in November 2023. He is a graduate of the National Defense University "Carol I" and holds several postgraduate degrees in defense management, security, and defense policy from institutions in Romania and abroad. He has been awarded several honors, including the National Order "Faithful Service" in the rank of Knight in 2022 and the Order "Military Virtue" in the rank of Knight in 2021. He is fluent in English and has an intermediate level of French.
