Prof. Dr. habil. Stanisław Koziej, Brig. Gen. retired. Born in 1943 in Lublin Voivodeship. Graduate of the Mechanised Forces Officer School (1965) and the Academy of General Staff of Polish Armed Forces (1973). Graduated from a number of short-term foreign strategy courses, including the Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of USSR (Moscow, 1987); School NATO-SHAPE (Oberammergau, 1999); Institute of Higher Studies of National Defence (Paris, 2000); NATO Defence Academy (Rome, 2001). Former head of the National Security Bureau and the vice-minister of National Defense, advisor to the Minister of National Defense and Ombudsman for Citizen Rights, department director in the Ministry of National Defence and National Security Bureau, chief of the operations branch in ŚOW, chief of operations branch in the 15th Mechanised Division, officer of the General Staff, longtime academic teacher at the Academy of General Staff, National Defence Academy, and civilian universities. In the years 1996-1997 acted as the head of Polish mission in the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission in Korea, and in the years 1997-1998 acted as deputy head of OSCE Mission to Georgia. In the years 1999-2001 was the Polish representative in NATO specialising in nuclear policy & strategy. Coauthor of Polish defence strategy and national security at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, author of several hundred publications in the field of national security, especially defence. Currently a member of the Program Council of the Bronisław Komorowski Institute, senior fellow of the Casimir Pulaski Foundation, and an academic teacher at the University of Warsaw and at the Higher School of Paweł Włodkowic in Płock.
