Péter Szijjártó graduated from the Budapest University of Economic Sciences and Public Administration in Budapest in 2002, with a degree in International Relations and Sports Management. In 2001, he was elected as the Vice President of Fidelitas, the youth organization of the Fidesz party, in which he was also a member of the National Board. He became a Member of Parliament in the National Assembly of Hungary in 2002 and is currently serving his fourth subsequent term. In 2004-2006, he was Vice Chairman of the Committee of Youth and Sport Affairs. In 2005-2009, he served as President of the Fidelitas. He also served as spokesman of the Fidesz-Hungarian Civic Union from 2006 to 2010, when he became the spokesman of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. In 2012, Szijjártó was appointed State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations and Chairman of eight economic committees working to boost Hungarian trade policy and integration. In 2014, he started his work as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
