This session was organized in partnership with the Polish Institute of International Affairs and was aimed, on one hand, at determining whether the Iranian Crisis is at a deadlock, and, on the other, searching for solutions to this geopolitical issue.
WSF2019 | HIGH LEVEL SESSION: The Eastern Partnership at 10
The panel discussion “The Eastern Partnership at 10” aimed, on one hand, to look at the achievements and difficulties of The Eastern Partnership thus far, and, on the other hand, to identify the hopes and goals for its next 10 years and beyond. The panel was financed by the International Visegrad Fund, whose mission is to promote ideas for sustainable regional cooperation in Central Europe.

The panelists of this breakout session were: Mr. Dobran Božič – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia; Daniel Fried – Distinguished Fellow at the Future Europe Initiative and Eurasia Center, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs of the United States (2005 – 2009); Mr. Maciej Popowski – Deputy Director-General for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations at the European Commission; Mr. Péter Szijjártó – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary.
WSF2019 | CONVERSATION WITH SPECIAL GUEST: David Petraeus
The special guest of the 2019 Warsaw Security Forum (October 2-3, 2019) was Mr. David Petraeus. He served as an American General (ret.), Director of the CIA (2011 – 2012), Commander of the International Security Assistance Force (2010 – 2011) and Commander of the US Central Command (2008 – 2010). The conversation aimed to discuss the key issues that were making headlines all around the world, such as: Brexit, US-China relations, and President Trump’s impeachment. The discussion was moderated by Mr. Ali Aslan, an International Journalist and Presenter.

The session “NATO’s Eastern Flank: From Strategic Reassurance to “Fort Trump”” was held in partnership with the German Marshall Fund of the United States. The panel aimed to discuss the most vulnerable sector of the Alliance – the Eastern Flank, and the current status of a permanent American base in Poland, so-called “Fort Trump”.

Wethington – Member of the Board of Directors of the International Republican Institute, Senior Fellow at the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security (Atlantic Council), Assistant Secretary for International Affairs and Special Envoy on China at the US Department of the Treasury (2006); Mr. Hugh White – Emeritus Professor of Strategic Studies at The Australian National University in Canberra (Australia).

The ministerial session “Three Seas: Central Europe’s Security in a World of Greater Complexity”, with speakers from Croatia, Latvia and Poland, was aimed at discussing major challenges facing the Three Seas Initiative today, particularly in relation to its institutionalization, relationship with European integration and cooperation with external players. The session took place on October 2nd, 2019 in Warsaw.

This session was organized in partnership with the Brookings Institution (USA). It aimed to discuss why the democratic ideal seems to have been eroded by the recent wave of populist movements. The session took place on October 3rd, 2019 in Warsaw.

The panel discussion “A Tale of Two Britains: Brexitland v. Remainia – What Kind of Britain Would the World Face After Brexit?” was organized in cooperation with the Centre for International Relations (CSM), which was founded in 1996 and is one of the oldest think tanks in Poland.

The session “Pipe-Dream or Reality: Is the EU a Global Power” brought together Mr. Carmelo Abela, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion of Malta, Mr. Paweł Kowal, Member of the European Parliament (2009-2014) and Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland (2006-2007), Mr. Jens Plötner, Political Director at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, Mr. František Ružička, State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia, and Ms. Karin Wallensteen, State Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office of Sweden. This panel was moderated by Mr. Benjamin Haddad, the Director of the Future Europe Initiative from the Atlantic Council (USA), which co-organized the session.
